Which card to take?
Two floor cards share the month. Pick one.
GO / STOP
Forfeit this game?
End the current game and start a new one. This counts as a loss in your session record.
Playing free online Go-Stop (Matgo) with hwatu
Go-Stop (Matgo) is a two-player Korean flower-card game played with a 48-card hwatu deck (12 months × 4 cards). On each turn you play one hand card, the deck flips one card, and matching months are captured for points. At 7 or more points you choose GO (keep playing for a bigger win) or STOP (end the round and score). This utilzips page is 1v1 vs AI in the browser—no install, account, or upload.
How to play (first round)
- A new game deals floor cards and hands automatically. Your cards face up at the bottom; the computer's hand stays face-down.
- Tap a card in your hand to play it onto the floor.
- The center deck flips one card.
- If a played or flipped card shares a month with a floor card, those cards are captured into your pile. If not, they stay on the floor.
- When two floor cards share a month but differ in type, a prompt asks which one to take.
- Turns alternate with the computer until someone stops at 7+ points or the deck/hands run out.
Card types and scoring
Captured cards score by type (simplified Matgo-style counting on this page):
- Brights (kwang): powerful month cards — 3 / 4 / 5 brights score big.
- Animals (yeol): animal cards — 5+ start scoring; special sets like Godori add bonus.
- Ribbons (tee): ribbon cards — 5+ start scoring; color sets (red / blue / green) add bonus.
- Junk (pee): filler cards — roughly 10 junk ≈ 1 point (double-junk cards count extra).
Exact thresholds match common Matgo tables; the on-table score updates as you capture.
GO / STOP, shake, bomb
- GO: at 7+ points, continue for a higher multiplier if you win later.
- STOP: end the round now and take the win (or settle the score).
- Shake: if you hold three cards of the same month and none are on the floor, you may shake before playing—winning then doubles your multiplier.
- Bomb: three of a month in hand plus one matching month on the floor—take all at once (also counts as a shake).
Special outcomes (toast labels)
- Kiss (쪽): your play and the deck flip are the same month with an empty match path—extra junk steal.
- Ppeok (뻑): the deck flip matches your play's month in a way that cancels the capture this turn—cards stay on the floor.
- Ddadak (따닥): a strong double match on the flip—big capture and junk steal.
- Clean / Sweep (싹쓸이): you clear the floor (or scoop a piled month)—steal junk from the opponent.
Where hwatu and Go-Stop come from
Hwatu grew in Korea from Japanese hanafuda roots. Go-Stop is the family of games where calling “go” or stopping creates the tension; Matgo is the popular two-player form. This page keeps that feel in a browser table: deck in the center, floor around it, captured piles above and below.
Tips
- Prefer playing a month that already sits on the floor so you capture immediately.
- Watch your junk and bright counts—GO is riskier if the computer is close behind.
- Sound stays on this device; language (KO/EN) is saved in this browser only.
- Nothing is uploaded—switching devices means no cloud continue.
