같은 글인데 왜 숫자가 다를까
글자 수 기준은 생각보다 제각각입니다. 어떤 곳은 공백 포함, 어떤 곳은 공백 제외를 세고, 오래된 시스템은 글자가 아니라 바이트를 셉니다. 바이트 기준에서는 영문 1자가 1바이트인 반면 한글 1자는 보통 2~3바이트라, "500바이트 제한"이면 한글로는 약 160~250자밖에 못 씁니다. 이모지는 한 글자처럼 보여도 내부적으로 여러 코드가 조합된 경우가 있어 플랫폼마다 1자로 세기도, 2자로 세기도 합니다. 제출 전 반드시 그 기관·플랫폼과 같은 기준으로 확인해야 하는 이유입니다.

- 자기소개서·지원서: "공백 포함 1,000자 이내" 같은 조건을 넘지 않게 다듬을 때.

Why counts differ for the same text
Counting rules vary more than you'd expect. Some systems count with spaces, some without, and older ones count bytes rather than characters. In bytes, an English letter is 1 byte while a Korean character is usually 2–3—so a "500-byte" field fits only 160–250 Korean characters. Emoji may look like one character but combine several codes underneath, so platforms count them differently. Always check with the same rule your target system uses.
